Boss...The Wonder Dog!!

May 19, 2014

What a wild week it has been! I will have to write about it a little at a time!
But first...we had to say good-bye to our Wonder Dog... Boss.
During the past year we began to notice that he was unable to do the things that he loved so much.
He couldn't jump into the back of the truck to go for a ride to the farms. The Farmer figured out a
way to back his truck into a shallow ditch in front of our home, so that Boss could easily walk
into the truck. It made him really happy to take a trip to the farms. He was my walking companion
for years. Each morning I would walk to the river and back... for a little exercise...
he would be by my side. The other two dogs would run, play and explore, but Boss
would stay close to me, usually hitting my hand with his nose a few times
during the walk, to let me know he was looking out for me.

He was the constant companion of The Darlings as they grew up.
Where ever they went...he want to go too. When The Aggie Boy was riding his horses..
.Boss was there too. He loved The Darlings so much...and they loved him too!
The Farmer was out of town for a couple of days this past week...he was working in Chicago.
I had noticed that Boss was unusually quiet and wasn't too anxious to move around.
After work one afternoon I sat in the grass with him and held his head on my lap and
told him how much we loved him. I told him that we couldn't have raised those Darlings of ours without him.
I thanked him for keeping us safe and protecting our home. I cried a lot.
After loving him for a little while, I brought his food and water and placed it close by,
so he wouldn't have to walk far to get it, and then I went to bed. I told The Rooster that Boss was in pretty
bad shape. He too spent a little time with Boss petting him and loving him.

The next morning as The Rooster left for school, Boss seemed a little better.
I left for work and hoped for the best. When I arrived home in the late afternoon, our gardener,
Augustine, quickly came to me to tell me that Boss was unresponsive. We went to the garage
where Boss was laying down, and Augustine kneeled down close to Boss and said
"Boss...Boss...tell me something...tell me anything..." Just then The Rooster came home from
school and I headed into the house and burst into tears. The Rooster and Augustine carefully carried
Boss to the truck and quickly drove him to our Vet.

Within a couple of hours they called to tell us he had died.
The Rooster knew I was an emotional mess, so as hard as it was for him, he went to the Vet.,
picked Boss up, came to the house and picked me up and drove us to the Solecito to bury him in our pet
graveyard. He and our dear gardener dug the grave and carefully buried our Boss.
When they were done, Augustine stood at Boss's grave and said..
."oh how we love our pets...they are our family." He loved Boss as much as we did.

Telling the Darlings was so hard. They loved him sooo much!
I am grateful for the Wonder Dog of our...he was a blessing to our family.
He made life a little bit sweeter. He will never be forgotten!!

Dirty Dogs...And...A Football Game....

Last week, as we were getting ready to leave town for a few days...The Rooster noticed that the dogs looked sad. They seem to know when we are leaving...they hover close by while we are packing the car...and they get sad. The Rooster thought he will treat them to a good run in the orchard before we left...that would make the dogs happy he was sure of it! The Rooster is thoughtful like that;) Off they all went...The Rooster in the Rhino...and all three dogs following behind.

They were gone just long enough for us to finish packing the car...and when they arrived back home...they were no longer white! I can't say that I have seen them quite that dirty in a very long time. And The Rooster was right...those dogs were happy! They actually look like they are smiling for the pictures! After the run...they seemed a little less stressed about us leaving and were
just glad to sit in the back of the truck and rest.

Just a funny side note...The Farmer has to be really careful not to leave the tailgate of his truck down...once the dogs are in the truck...they refuse to get out. I guess they have learned that it is a pretty good afternoon if they get to go with The Farmer to The Farm!!

With the car loaded...we headed to Cobre New Mexico, for another JSA High School football game. PreShie left earlier that day with the Cheerleaders. It was a great game...even though the JSA lost. We didn't completely anticipate how cold it was going to be at the game...luckily for good friends who shared their blankets...we made it through the game, toasty warm! I think the cheerleaders nearly froze...but they sure looked cute while they cheered their hearts out for their team! Just for the record...a couple of times the Cheer Captain actually yelled at the crowd for not cheering loud enough...she was feeling a bit bugged that the crowd wasn't screaming their loudest...just sayin';)
That Cheer Captain takes her job very seriously....yes she does!!

It Was A Good Day For The Dogs....

October 10, 2011

The Farmer....and his Daughter..aka PreShie....decided to take a little Rhino ride on Satuday
evening.  She had been out of town for a couple of days on a cheer trip and The Farmer...well...
he is always up for a Rhino ride.  So they headed for the Solecito to check on the animals....and
then to the river for an adventure.  The took the beloved dogs along for some much needed
exercise.  It was a cool day....the leaves are begining to yellow...it was a beautiful day.
When they arrived home...PreShie mentioned something about the Rhino nearly rolling...and it was scary.
But that was about it...and I didn't think too much about it...until this morning when I read The Farmer's
weekly letter to the Missionary Boy.  He went into a little more detail....and mentioned something
about nearly running over the dogs a few times.  And....of course he ended the letter by saying...
it really wasn't that big of a deal...it all turned out OK.

The dogs returned along with The Farmer and PreShie...they seemed just fine...in fact they slept
pretty well on Saturday night.  That is always a good thing.
So I guess in some cases the phrase "what you don't know...won't hurt you..." is kind
of true.  Had I know what really happened...I would have worried...all I did know for sure
is that they all came home safe and sound.

The Farmer titled this photo...
"Paradise"
And for us it is.  Our little piece of heaven on earth.  Some days it doesn't seem
like much....but we sure like it!
Boss in Prison

So...a few weeks ago...Boss The Dog got "picked up" and thrown in the "slammer."
We were out of town when it happened...but thanks to the gardner next door we knew what had happened.
The dog police actually called Boss The Dog...from our yard onto the street so he could get him.
Our theory is that someone decided they wanted him and offered the dog police a little $$$$
and he gave it his best shot!  The Rooster called us and reported the "crime"....The Farmer sprang
into action and called out the troops...(that would be our secretary)...who headed to the Dog
Slammer and took these photos of Boss The Dog.  The most disturbing thing about the whole
event...is that the dog is actually smiling!
Boss and Buddies
He had to spend the night in the "Slammer" but was released early the next morning.
When "the troops" arrived to take him home...he didn't want to leave the pen he was locked up in...
after all...he had made some new friends and was having a great time!
Had we known that his visit to the "Slammer" would have been so much fun...we wouldn't have
worried so much!  Luckily "the troops" arrived bright and early to pick him up...while they
were paying the fines...another family arrived to take him home...pretty interesting huh?!
When Boss The Dog arrived home....he went right to his water dish and drank and drank...
The Rooster fed him...watered him...and hugged him...we just wish he had learned that the
"Slammer" is a BAD place to be...not a place to make new friends!!!

A Tribute To Our Ivory

July 22, 2008

I mentioned that last week was a very difficult week for PreShie...Our Mama Dog died on Thursday morning, and PreShie was the one that got the call from our Vet. I happened to be on the phone with her when the Vet. called and shared alot of tears with her over the phone. She was the only one home, other than the sweet lady that helps in our house, and it nearly broke her heart. We have had Ivory, the Mama Dog, for several years. She was loyal, and very protective of the Darlings. She exercised with me every morning for many years and was a great companion. Our house is quiet and sad with out her...We still have our Daddy Dog, Boss, but even he seems lost with her.
The Darlings are doing a wonderful job caring for the puppies. Every three hours they make sure that they are eating. The Boy takes the night shift and Rooster and PreShie take the day shifts. The puppies are growing and getting fat. The Mamma Dog that has adopted them is really doing an amazing job. The Vet. checked them out yesterday and said that they look great. PreShie came home they other day and said that The Farmer's Mother told her that the Prophet Joseph Smith said that the animals that we loved on earth would be with us in heaven...PreShie is banking on that!

The Puppy Report...

July 15, 2008

I thought a quick update on the puppies would be a good thing since a few of you have asked. The mamma dog gave birth on Friday night and Saturday. She had 13 pups which was just too much for her. We are left with seven and a very very sick mamma dog. We thought we were going to loose her yesterday in the morning but luckily the vet got to our house fast enough. She is resting, doing much better today, and our cousin dog who recently had puppies is now nursing the pups. PreShie was up every three hours last night making sure the pups were eating. She is on puppy duty since the boys are gone to scout camp, lucky girl! She is doing an awesome job. I hope to post some pictures later today....we will keep you posted!
