The Rooster's Court Of Honor....

On his very birthday...The Rooster officially became an Eagle Scout!

He has worked on it for a long time with alot of help from many people....

The Rooster's great motivation was to beat his older brother.

He wanted to earn the Eagle before the brother did...with more merit badges than

the brother had.  Even it was only 1 more;)

It worked well for me....not alot of  "encouragement" was needed along the way!

The Rooster has enjoyed Scouts, so it wasn't too hard to keep him moving.

He is lucky to have a Dad and a brother who led the way in scouting, as well

as several uncles and cousins.

I am personally very happy it is done!

I love how The Farmer is looking at his Rooster....

It was the perfect ending to a very fun day....

The Rooster Is an Eagle!!.....

Congratulations to The Rooster who is now and Eagle Scout!! And The Mom...breathes a big sigh of relief! He will be awarded one week before his 15th birthday...which is fun too;) The Rooster has completed enough merit badges to qualify for a Gold and Silver Palm...after he waits his time requirement. His only goal in scouting....to beat his brother...The Missionary Boy!

And it did help keep him motivated;)



The Rooster does NOT like to have his picture taken...unlike the other two Darlings who live in our house... when you mention "photo shoot" he quickly disappears. Last night, PreShie was kind enough to take a few pictures...all the while, The Rooster was complaining and squirming.

My First Culinary Award!

Scout Camp provided many new experiences this past week, even for me! On Friday, the last day of camp, there was a Dutch Oven Cobbler Cook Off, something that they do each year. I have never cooked in a Dutch Oven...how hard could it be ...right?? Before we went to camp on Wednesday we stopped and got all the necessary items for the competition. Remember, I have never cooked in a Dutch Oven, neither has The Farmer, or anyone else that was with us. We heard through the grapevine that the secret ingredient was cinnamon and so we made sure to take some. Our cobbler was Dublan Peach Cobbler with lots of butter (I think that is why we won) and a little cinnamon. The other troops that we competed against were so kind to give us little tips and help us through the cook off. It was alot of fun! We placed first in the Dutch Oven Cobbler Cook Off! And for me that made scout camp worth while:)

Another Day In Paradise

These are pictures that I took yesterday afternoon. I rained most of the afternoon but let up enough for me to visit the scout camp and check in on the boys (and men). This is the hotel I am staying at...I LOVE IT!!
This tree is literally 50 yards from my room, on the edge of the golf course. I ran right past this tree in the morning, came back in the afternoon, after the storm, and this is what we found. It had been struck by lightening. There was bark everywhere. It was really a sight.

Rooster and the gang did their 5 mile hike yesterday and came through town. They took a little rest and this is where I caught up with the. They were having such a great time! Good thing they had their rain ponchos on...it was raining.

I love this town...I think I said that about 20 times yesterday.

THIS IS WHAT I CALL SCOUT CAMP!!

The scout camp where The Farmer and the boys are, is fairly close to where I am staying. So this morning I set out on a run/hike to meet the men at camp. Five miles or so later, I was loving my run/hike, but had not come upon the camp. I returned to the hotel. I will try again tomorrow:) The mountains are incredibly beautiful, it has been raining in the afternoons. Today there was thunder and lightening. It made me feel sorry for the scouts...for a minute...actually it was The Farmer I was feeling bad for. Scouts like that kind of stuff...right? I thought I would get some great pictures today, but because of the rain it didn't work out. Hopefully tomorrow.

It Is Way Too Quiet Around Here

Today, The Boy and Rooster, along with the other young men in the ward, left for scout camp in mountains of New Mexico. This is Roosters first time to go, he was a little nervous, a little worried, but I know he will have a great time. Next Wednesday The Farmer (and his Wife) are going to the scout camp to take over scout duty, well The Farmer is taking over scout duty and his Wife will be reading a couple of wonderful books under the pines! The Boy is nominated for Order of the Arrow and is quite excited about that, since he is already an Eagle Scout, he will be participating in a High Adventure program of mountain biking as well as earning a few more merit badges. It will be all fun and games for him.

It will be a great week at scout camp!

Cub Scout Day Camp

Thursday was Cub Scout Day Camp in Col. Juarez. We all sure had fun! Lots of great activities were planned, lots of yummy snacks were provided and lots of achievments were accomplished! Thanks to Col. Juarez for the invite...we had a great time! Uncle Clayt teaching Outdoorsman (above)

To pass off an achievement for the Bears, we walked to the Quintana Family home to check out all of their neat animals. We arrived just in time to watch Bro. Quintana milk the cow. The scouts really loved that! He made it look effortless.

No Cub Day Camp would be complete without a fire! It was a beautiful day and we all had a great time. CUB SCOUTS ROCK!!!
